Oriental Cockroach

Identify:

Adult oriental cockroaches have a flattened oval shape, with long spiny legs and filamentous antennae. They are shiny, dark brown to black and are about 1 to 1-1/4 inches long. They do have wings but are unable to fly. Females are more numerous and are more broad.

Where They Live:

This roach requires high-moisture conditions. They feed upon decaying organic material and garbage. Outside, they can be found in compost bins, under leaves, around garbage cans, and mulching materials.

Inside, they are found in areas like basements, crawl spaces, garages, near drains, leaky water pipes, under refrigerators, sinks, washing machines, and inside walls. Oriental roaches are quickly becoming a problem in the Contra Costa Valley.

A Short Bio:

The immature (nymphs) are similar in shape and darker than the adults.

Egg cases are dark brown and up to 1 inch long, and look slightly inflated.

Females carry the egg capsule between one and five days. She will deposit it in a warm, sheltered spot near a food supply. Females produce 1 to 18 capsules, each containing up to 16 eggs.

Our Treatment:

This roach can be controlled with an exterior treatment. When large numbers occur inside, an interior treatment will also be needed.
For long term control an every other month or quarterly treatment will be needed.
